Thanks for the thoughtful argument. We have 3 kids, our oldest is 12 and she's been asking for the last couple of years to read the series. I've decided she can wait a couple more years and she'll be fine. For me it's not about the kissing, or references to sex, ect. It's because I don't find the story romantic. I found the romance in the story suffocating, immature and unhealthy. I don't want our daughter to think life is only about having a man, or that marriage is just about sex, or that romance is a guy being jealous or controlling. True love is freeing and deeply respectful which she sees carried out at home daily. I agree with the post that the comments from other youngsters on this site only solidified my decision. Right now our daughter's thinking about future careers, she already talks about college, is developing her abilities, discovering her talents. I'd prefer to invest her time in more empowering stories. Thanks for your time!

Twilight rocks. 11 year olds and up should be fine, but the little ones (10 and under) no way. 10 and 9 year olds should stick to Barbies, hello kitty, and Disney channel, but 11 and up, go see it. TEAM JACOB

Hi cj!

I just wanted to say that there is big difference in 16, and preteen and younger. You may not realize it but there really is.
No one is worried about our kids falling love and making babies with vampires and you know it!

But there are things when you understand nly when you have your daughter:)

But since this is really teen book, I don't see why not with your age at all!

I agree with this article.
I'm a mom of 11 and 6.
We watched Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse together.
But I did ask my friends first who watched them to make sure they are ok for kids. For Eclipse after my daugheter and I watched it, then I let my 6 year old watch it at home.

My daughter wanted to read whole series when Twilight came out on dvd. She was 4th grade at that time.
I noticed it was young adult book, so I read them all and loved them. However my answer to my daughter was NO.
Now she is 11, and I allowed her to read Twilight, and probably New Moon too.

However, I am not planning to allow Eclipse and others until little later. They are more sexual and probably give more "understanding" the situation when my kids age appropriate, which will give her more out of the book than pre-teen or younger kids reading them.
Reading books are not just "intersting" but also the excitement of emotions out of "sharing the feelings" with characters in the books.
